Applied Science announces HemoVoice, the AI-powered donor engagement agent
Voice AI pilot delivers a 47% relative increase in engagement.
Grass Valley, Calif., September 23, 2026 , Applied Science, Inc. (ASI), a leader in whole blood collection workflow automation, optimization, and analytics, today announced its newest product, HemoVoice, a customizable AI agent and platform for blood donor engagement to improve recruitment and retention.
The pilot behind it
From its Applied Science Innovation Lab in Grass Valley, ASI launched a voice AI pilot with Western Sierra Medical Clinic — an opportunity to test agentic technology on a sensitive health topic in a diverse rural community. The pilot targeted colorectal cancer screening outreach, and the results were striking: Western Sierra’s screening rate rose from 23% to 33.8%, a 47% relative improvement, or 10.8 percentage points, in a single measurement cycle. That translated to closed care gaps for hundreds of patients across the communities Western Sierra serves. This technology is the foundation of HemoVoice.
“AI is helping us reach patients in ways we simply could not do at scale before. With Hemovoice, we can connect with more patients, identify needs sooner, and free our staff to focus on the work that requires their expertise and compassion. For me, that is where AI has real meaning in healthcare: not replacing the human connection, but creating more opportunity for it,” said Debra Plass, RN, Chief Nursing Officer and Vice President of Operations, Western Sierra Medical Clinic.
Features
HemoVoice’s features span the full donor journey: scheduling appointments, pre-visit confirmations, post-visit check-ins, targeted blood type requests, and outreach for donor drives and emergency appeals — situations where rapid communication with a center’s donor base can make all the difference.
Benefits
With patents worldwide and a track record of industry firsts, ASI has long set the pace for innovation in blood collection and management. Now ASI introduces HemoVoice, the first AI agent purpose-built to transform how blood centers engage with donors.
HemoVoice lets centers reach more donors without adding staff: greater calling scale, more chances to connect, and broader outreach at a fraction of the cost per contact. Real-time performance monitoring shows what is working and can be tailored to each center’s needs. With automated conversations in more than 20 languages, HemoVoice is built to serve ASI clients and the blood collection industry worldwide.
HemoVoice integrates with supported call-center platforms, bringing AI-powered capabilities into established workflows so there is no need to replace people or equipment. Centers can leverage existing investments, extending the reach of their teams and infrastructure while opening new possibilities for donor engagement.
Jonathan Morgan, CEO of Applied Science, stated: “As we are headquartered in California, with roots in the San Francisco Bay Area, we’ve been part of the AI industry’s growth for years. Earlier this year, we put that experience to the test with a pilot in one of healthcare’s most demanding, diverse markets. Built with administrative, technical, and contractual safeguards to support HIPAA compliance, the pilot delivered significant gains in call efficiency and stronger patient engagement. The result: healthier outcomes for more people, without adding strain on health system staff.”
